Hair Loss Men

A thinning hairline or the arrival of a bald patch, the beginning warnings of hair loss is in all probability the single thing that gives men more anxious moments than anything else in their lives and can have a great significance on men’s self-assurance and self-image.

Although this process, for men, can start in the later teenage years it normally happens in their late 20s and early 30s.Hair may start to disappear from the temples and the crown of the head at any time. A little thinning of the hair may be noticeable first, followed by wider hair loss allowing more of the scalp to become visible.

This process doesn’t distress some men at all, but others, however, undergo enormous emotional distress coupled with a lack of self-confidence and sometimes depression.

In men an excess of a chemical called dihydrotestosterone, or DHT causes baldness, which may have an inherent quality. The hair is typically lost at the temples and the crown and is a result of the hair follicles making thinner and thinner hair until they ultimately fail totally.

Other causes of hair loss can be anaemia, which is iron-deficiency, an under active thyroid, a fungal scalp infection, stress or even some prescribed medicines. These are usually reversible, however, and it’s normally possible to stop hair loss.

There are some treatments available that supposedly slow down and even reverse the development of hair loss in men – some successful, some not. Obviously wigs and hair transplants a direct type of remedy, but they are not for everyone. Herbal preparations in a range of permutations, such as zinc, magnesium, iron, vitamin E and other substances, may facilitate positive results.

Lotions, such as Minoxidil, are an over the counter preparations that are rubbed on the scalp and slow down the process of hair loss and can even promote new hair growth, but they stop being effective as soon as you stop on using them.
The latest treatment comes in tablet form and is called Finasteride (Propecia). It slows down hair loss and can even regenerate new hair growth. In some countries it is only available with prescription.

Finally, to ensure that the hair loss isn’t connected to an illness it is advisable to consult a doctor in the initial stages, especially if the hair loss is irregular or if the hair loss is tied in with other symptoms, such as tiredness.
